Buddhist Art Dome
Starting from the 2nd stair platform by a Thai traditional painting that portrays a classic story when Vasavatti Mara, the king of evils, advancing the troops to confront Gautama Buddha at the Bhodi Tree, the audiences can enjoy contemporary Buddhist works of art belonging to Chuang Moolpinit and Panya Vijinthanasarn. After reaching the hall on 3rd floor, they can see Chalermchai Kositpipat’s sculpture portraying the Buddha Over Sorrow and Happiness under the glorious copper dome. On the opposite site lays Thana Lauhakaikul’s sculpture named The Smile and Time. On the both sides of the wall install other artistic Buddhist works; for example, Preecha Thaothong’ painting that portrays the Mara-Defeating scene by using light shining through the window and its shadow, Pichai Nirand’s Buddha’s footprint, Phatyos Buddhacharoen’s (who continues his works toward Buddhist art) Mountain Spirit and Chalermchai Kositpipat’s works: the first one is an acrylic painting on canvas portraying Buddhist calmness in urban society; the second one is a pencil drawing named The Tree in Heaven painted in the same year (1984) when the artist went to Wat Buddha Pradipa Temple in Wimbledon Parkside City, the United Kingdom, in order to draw mural paintings.
